Steve's Custom Cold-Air Intake

This photo shows the view from under the hood. The black ball looking thing is a vacuum tank from under the wheel arch. This stores vacuum so the heater controls will work when the motor is not going, I thought I could get away without this part but unfortunately under heavy acceleration the vacuum pressure automatically changes the heater from demist to in yer face, bit of a pain.

This photo is a detail of the fitting which is off the old airbox, a wrecker can supply another one that goes under the arch, If you get a VN one this is aluminium and is a bit stronger
This photo shows the big K&N under the arch. The perspex splash guard is only temporary as I am fabricating a new one out of FibreGlass. The strut is fairly important as the guard will bend with airpressure

As to the point in question is it getting any cold air, this view from the front of the car looking through the bumper should answer, as too the main fact, has it improved power, well I dont know, Its no worse, But this modification occured at the same time the car was lowered so its all a bit scary at the moment, tell you what though the fuel economy is ratshit, but that might be the right boot that the peddle is getting, should tailor off later

I have just completed modification to my V6 air intake in a similar fashion to the method you used. I pal of mine (Joe Nacagilevu)who subscribes to this e Group showed me your system and I thought this would be fun. I originally had a K&N High Flow POD type filter sitting on the end of the Factory Snorkel. I am not sure of the supply of cold air under here and its a bit of a squeeze when the bonnet comes down ( 92 VP > Berlina)so I though I would try out your mod. It uses the original fitting off the Factory airbox on the top side of the wheel arch, and I went to a wrecker and bought another identical fitting for underside of the wheel arch. This looks very proffesional. I cut an 80 mm hole in the arch and used the orginal Hex bolts to mate both fittings through the arch. I bought some high temp flexi hose to join the coupling to the top side fitting and put the K&N on the underside fitting. This whole proccess took about three hours and I have just had some photos taken.It is important to build up a rain guard as the K & N is sitting in front of the LH front tyre and is exposed to the wash in rainy weather. I am not sure of the performance gain as people who own V6's dont usually have a bucket load of money to spend on dyno-ing their car every time they change to a new grade of petrol. Other than Lowering the car by 30mm and stiffening the suspension by 30% (This is not FE2)which I recommend to any VN VP VR V6 thats still running on stilts The car is standard.
